How Api2File works
Basics
Api2File communicates with configured web APIs, then using the information retrieved, builds a virtual directory structure that is serves to networked computers via network shares. Each individual data record available from the API is listed as a separate file on the network share, with each file given a name to make choosing the right file to open easy.
Security
Api2File can authenticate with web APIs using configured credentials. This allows use of APIs that are secured using basic, API-key, digest/bearer and oauth2. Mapping network users to API credentials allows many users to utilise a single API credential. As users access data via network shares, API credentials are safely decoupled and hidden from end users.
Performance
Some APIs can be slow to respond or deliver very large result sets. Api2File utilises caching to get data quickly to users - often much faster than the API could deliver. Of course this caching can be turned off if data is extremely volatile.
Transformation
Data from APIs is often provided in json format. Api2File can convert any text data format (like json) into any shape of data required. Defining how the data must be transformed is done via the simple configuration file.
